Golf del Sur was originally designed by the Spanish Champion Pepe Gancedo but in 2005 the course was re-modelled by the Ryder Cup player Manuel Piñero. The course has been opened since 1987 and is also championship course having hosted the European Tour and Ladies European Tour on a few occasions.
There are 3 nine hole courses, the South, North and Links and any combination will make up a good test of golf for the visiting golfer. One of the unusual features on the course is the black “lava” sand which initially tales a little getting used to. The South & North 18 hole combination is favoured by many to be great test of golf with the par 72 measuring 5.906 meters (6.458 yards)
Our favourite holes
The 3rd hole on the North course prior to remodelling was a par 4 index 1 which Ronan Rafferty rated one of the best in Europe. Today it’s a par 5 measuring 480 meters of the white tees and plays very tough. Our second favourite is the 2nd hole on the South course which is very intimidating. It is a Par 3 and 193 mts from the white tees and the green is completely surrounded by a very large bunker. Accuracy is your only play here!
